good books

We highly recommend the book Three Letter Plague by Johnny Steinberg. I think that in America it is called Sizwe's Test. The book does an excellent job of bringing out the complexities of the AIDS crisis in this part of the world and showing why our scientific solutions are just not enough.

The main action takes place about an hour from where we live and many of the things affecting the people's lives are similar to those that we hear about from people in our Bible school.

It would be a great book to read and discuss in groups or for a small group or Sunday school class to study together. We'd love to discuss it with anyone interested.

  1. I have written down the title and author you mentioned and hope to read this book yet this summer. I just heard an NPR story about a young woman with AIDS--who has recently died--who kept an audio journal about her journey with AIDS. She was from S.Africa but I can't recall her name. When I think back to the early 80's when John and I were in Zambia--when the AIDS epidemic was already killing people but everyone was in denial, making jokes about how Americans were just trying to blame their problem on Africans. I've often wondered how many people we knew have since died because of AIDS.
Loved the pictures of Moses' birthday celebrations.
    Blessings on you,
